Pros: Cons:
  • Portable charging pack with all kits.
  • Cool reward points system lets you save money.
  • Batteries don’t hold their charge long enough.
  • Shipping tends to take awhile.
  • They offer “disposable” e-cigs at a very steep price.

It’s no accident that Blu Cig has quickly emerged as one of the leading electronic cigarette brands. Not only do they look great, but they have stellar functionality and can work wonders. The recharge pack makes it easy to make the switch from tobacco cigarettes to e-cigs. It’s much more natural to go from carrying a pack of cigarettes to carrying the Blu Pack than it is to only carry the cigarette itself – plus it’s harder to accidentally forget or lose it. The prices are competitive so you won’t be paying an arm and a leg for replacement parts or fresh cartridges. Though their customer support still leaves much to be desired, it’s not as bad as it was when they first emerged on the market. That being said, it may be best to order some refills and parts well in advance so you can be sure you’ll have them when you need them. There are some better products to be found out there, but Blu Cig has definitely earned its place as a premier e-cigarette brand.

There are a few pros and cons to the Blu Cig battery/charging system. On the one hand, you get two batteries in the starter kit, plus a neat carrying case that resembles a pack of cigarettes and doubles as a portable charging station. The case also lets you carry up to 5 cartridges in addition to recharging your batteries. Finally, the batteries are smaller than most other ecig brands, which results in a noticeably smaller design that’s approximately the same size as a normal non-vapor cigarette.

The flipside to the smaller batteries is that they don’t hold a charge for very long. This is easily compensated for by the portable charger, but it still can be irritating when you have to swap batteries on the go. Another downside is that the LED indicator when charging batteries doesn’t go off properly when it’s fully charged, yet the manual insists that you must immediately remove the battery once the charging is complete. The light will shut off briefly once it’s charged, but it will continue to go on and off periodically if left plugged in. The optimal charging time seems to be 45-60 minutes, but your results may vary.

Blu Cig offers 7 different cartridge flavors in 4 levels of nicotine content. The current flavors are: Tobacco, Menthol, Coffee, Vanilla, Cherry, Pina Colada and Peach Schnapps. Their Tobacco flavor is somewhat mild compared to other brands, but it’s close enough to the real thing that you won’t be disappointed if you’re just now making the switch to electronic cigarettes. While your results may vary, it seems that each Blu Cig cartridge is roughly the equivalent to 6-8 cigarettes. The vapor produced is acceptable, not as strong as a brand like Green Smoke but it’s still noticeable. Overall the cartridges do their job and taste fine, but they don’t stand out as being exceptional in any way.

Blu Cig’s starter kits, refill packs and replacement parts are all extremely economical. While there may be higher quality or lower priced vapor cigarettes out there, the cost-to-value ratio you get with the Blu brand simply can’t be beat. Everything is well crafted and doesn’t have that “cheap” feel that you find with most discount brands. Even after my normal stress tests the Blu Cig still worked and showed no damage or wear. It’s easy to see that these were made to last. In fact, the weakest part of the design is probably the batteries themselves, though as noted earlier this isn’t a big problem when you have the recharge pack.

Unfortunately, the support service at Blu Cig has earned a nasty reputation. Not long ago there were numerous reports of massive shipping delays without any notice or warning. Some people waited more than two months before they received their shipment. Now it seems they’ve compensated for this problem, though there are still some isolated reports of slower shipping speeds. They recently had to recall all of their recharge packs due to a dangerous flaw, but they’ve since cleared the issue up and there haven’t been any reported incidents since.

Their actual customer support agents seem pretty good for the most part. I’ve only called in three times; my issues were resolved quickly the first two, but the third was a little frustrating and resulted in my call being transferred several times.
