Bingo Hall Kicks Grandma Out for Using E-Cigarette

HBingo Hall Kicks Grandma Out for Using E-Cigaretteere’s something you don’t see every day…

Julia Cummings, 52-year old grandmother of three, was kicked out of a bingo hall in Cardiff, England because she had been using her electronic cigarette inside the building. According to Mrs. Cummings, she’d previously asked and received permission to use her e-cigarette from one of the bingo hall’s other branches.

“I wasn’t sure whether I’d be allowed to use them in the bingo hall, so I phoned up and checked,” she said. “The male manager who I spoke to initially said there was no problem with it as long as I didn’t use it when we were playing the books.”

Having been a smoker for nearly 40 years and beginning to have health issues as a result, Mrs. Cummings had recently made the switch to electronic cigarettes after hearing about their benefits. She began to notice the difference almost immediately.

“Four-and-a-half months ago I was diagnosed with emphysema, I was very ill and was told that if I didn’t stop smoking I’d have to have an oxygen tank. But I’ve got grandchildren and I don’t want them to see me like that. So I was told that if I stopped smoking it would calm down, so I did and the difference has been amazing”

While I can respect the bingo hall’s right to dictate what is and is not allowed on its premises, I can’t help but feel that this was unfair. She did everything right by calling in ahead of time to get permission. Here’s hoping that an apology (and a free round of bingo) is forthcoming.
